Dear Dr. Dringenburg,

mind if i call u, hans? no? excellent! so, hans, my friend, i was very stimulated by ur lecture today regarding the auditory system. u mentioned that a bat has larger ears (pinna) than humans because they rely on the auditory system more than their vision, unlike humans. this is how they go about their activities at night. now, i wonder if we as humans had the same-sized pinna (ears), what sort of effect will it have on our daily lives? will we depend mostly on our vision during the daytime and our hearing during the nighttime? what about that time period between day and nite (i.e. dusk) and nite and day (i.e. dawn)? will we be using only half visual, half auditory? and how would we accomplish that? should we wear an eye patch and an ear plug to ensure that we ARE in fact using only half of our full capacity? do u think that it would make a difference if it were a left eye-left ear, right eye-right ear, left eye-right ear, or right eye-left ear combination? where do u suggest for us to get the ear plugs? those yellow ones from the campus bookstore, perhaps? or do u think using wads of cotton would suffice? oh, if u wear glasses, should the patch cover ur lense or should it be slipped on underneath? and what about contacts? will leaving them out be the same as wearing an eye patch since u would have poor vision anyway??? and how about dumbo? he/it's certainly got humongous ears (pinna)??!! but he/it's an elephant! does that matter? will that hinder his/its vision since he/it has to flap those floppy pinna (ears) in order to get around? since he/it actively uses his/its ears and his/its vision might be impaired by the flying, does it mean he/it's neither using his/its visual nor auditory system??!! wow! he/it's good! what system does HE/IT implement then? can we humans do that too??? i have to admit that he/it looks awfully cute! goojee goojee goojee goo... may i have ur home phone number? it might come in handy sometime. thanx! and that way, i won't need to bombard ur email inbox. thank u for ur time and kind attention. hope 2 hear 4m u soon!

yours sincerely,
Lisa H. F. Tang
(i think this makes me sound more professional, don't u think?)

P.S. ur hand-drawn overhead diagrams are simply smashin'!! keep it up! =)
P.P.S. i'm thinking of starting a new franchise of fast-food restaurants in kingston featuring the specialty "Dringenburgers"! the students would feel most honoured to be dining on a burger that reminds them of such a witty and beloved professor! would u be interested in funding my project? i can come in to get ur approval and fill out the necessary forms at ur earliest convenience. i'll contact ur secretary for an appointment ASAP. u can have the first bite of the "Dringerburger" on opening day!! =D thank u again for ur support!
